Hello teachers! I hope that you can use the Musical Movements book, CD, and video to engage the students and make a more musical environment in the classroom which will make the children want to learn even more. Above is a document with information and ideas for each song that is in the book to interact with the children in the classroom. Also, there are ideas for workshops to do each year with the parents and students.
Singing nursery rhymes helps to develop a child's social skills because he/she is next to other children in the classroom making different movements and actions. When children are introduced to a variety of nursery rhymes they can understand and learn about different sounds which is important for literacy skills to help with reading and writing.
Young students will develop their non-verbal communication skills and understand how words are formed because they are enabled to copy actions and learn about different beats and rhythms while being involved with actions, props, and pictures.
Older children in the classroom will even begin rhyming and experiment to combine sounds and blend sounds to form a word which helps in creativity, while younger children will improve in learning new words. Analysis has been done about music on a child's development and proved that children could remember long strings of words and sentences when put to a rhyme as well as building their vocabulary and improvement in listening.
Playing music is related to better language and mathematical skills and higher academic achievement. A study done by a group at the Brain and Creative Institute proved that music training during childhood accelerates brain development and sound processing which benefits language acquisition, and will be beneficial to both the student and teacher.
I hope that by implementing this music and book in the classroom you will see great results and that the children will be more engaged and develop a strong love for learning. If interested please feel free to fill out this survey about how your students engaged to the music and any new findings you discovered and share it with me. :)
